Recruiting?
Ok i know this is krazy, although im not certified yet, i would like to think about recruiting other doulas in my area. Well we don't really have anyone else here. so i was thinking of adding a page to my website titled want to be a doula or something. anyways, and i guess i would like to link to ALL the certification organizations. does anyone think this might be a good idea?
my reasoning behind this, is eventually i would like to have the Lawton Oklahoma Doula Association! (already came up with a name) so that more families will have an option of more doulas...because im not right for everyone and i know that, so what do yall think?

I think you should host a workshop in your area, for others to be trained as doulas. Typically, if you host it then you get to attend the workshop for free. It's a lot of work, but may be worth it in the end.

I agree with Stacie. Host a training in your area, and see if there is any interest.

That is a GREAT idea!
It would be win-win for you, Nelita - you would get a training close to your home, you would be able to go for free, AND you would get a ready-made group of local doulas.
I would strongly suggest looking into it.

I second that. Host a workshop then you will get a chance to really network with the other women attending and have a built in back up network.

You don't teach it! You take the course just like all the other brand new doulas. So it does not matter that your not certified, you are learning with the rest of them
It can be with whatever org you can find an instructor for, that will come to your city to teach you and several other women.

And you don't have to be a member first. Membership was included in my first doula training. Unfortunately, I didn't know that and had already joined so that was money wasted.

You don't teach it...you are an attendee. To be a "doula trainer" takes years of expierence and requirements....and is a certification itself over and above that of Birth Doula. I agree with G..you don't need to be a member. Maybe call DONA to see who can come in to teach a class. The trainer can tell you the minimum/maximum number of attendees required. And by hosting you could get your training free! And if there are no DONA trainers who are willing to come to the area....try other organizations.

As a trainer with OPS I am always looking for "sponsors" for my trainings as it is easier for them to find venues and participants because I generally don't know the area I am teaching in. As a sponsor I offer for them to participate in the training for free for all their hard work.
It is on my sponsors to find a venue, participants (through joint marketing and promotional material I provide), provide the refreshments and simple snacks for the 2.5 days. It is a nice way to get a training in your area and bring awareness of Doulas. So I would research the in class trainings such as DONA, CAPPA and see if there is a trainer near by that would be willing to come to your neighbourhood and have a training. I think it is a fabulous idea!
If you google "Oklahoma Doulas" several established organizations surface ... that way you aren't re-inventing the wheel. I would contact some of these orgs and pick there brain about getting a chapter started in your area. www.dacoinc.org www.southwestdoulas.com www.tulsadoulas.com (they seem to cover all the areas in Oklahoma). Trust me networking is the key to success and longevity in this field; it is nice to connect with people on-line but there is something to be said about face to face networking and educational opportunities. Best of luck.

Many doula trainers do travel elsewhere to provide trainings.

So you would need about 10-12 attendees at $300 each. Yes, that sounds right.
