So how far into your pregnancy...?

How far into you pregnancy did you attend births. Did you make sure you had a back up and under what circumstances you would use her?
I obviously have some news

Congratulations!!! With my last I attended births until 26wks and my last client this time is due when I'm 25wks. I'd rather not attend births in my last trimester bc of an irritable uterus, pubic bone pain and occasional sciatica.

I have never been pregnant as a doula, so I can't answer that part, but just wanted to say

Congratulations!

I attended births until I was 6 months in. I just couldn't take it physically after that. I had severe pubic symphysis pain and could barely walk, must less apply counterpressure and I was so big that when I went to the hospital with clients the staff kept asking me if I needed to be admitted!

I feel the same way. My last client was going to be in August..ummm but I just booked one for October..cutting it close for my personal pelvic comfort but I think I should be okay.

I did one while in my first trimester and was so miserable that I decided to not do that again.

Last time I doula'd pregnant it was November & my dd was born in April. It was interesting - feeling my baby moving and rolling while I was watching another baby come into the world.
That baby (my youngest) starts kindergarten this fall! My how time flies.

I worked until I was 30 weeks pregnant in my last pregnancy. I also had staff asking me about my symptoms and I would chuckle and say "Mom is in the washroom - I wouldn't be so calm if it was me in labour!" I was fortunate that my last 2 births were quite fast - the last one was around 5 hours - but it was a physical 5 hours. There are so many factors - you may be fine up to your 8th month but you may find it difficult sooner than that - I would recommend the wait and see approach - Robyn
