Client due & I am sick!
Hello!
My VBAC client was due last week & mw stripped her membranes Friday.
the problem is, is I am very sick with a vicious cold. I have NO fever though.
What will I do if she were to call while I am sick?
Have you ever been in this predicament? Will the nurses 'kick me out'?
I DO have a Backup doula, but of course, I am trying my hardest to get better (with homeopathic treatments, Emergen'C, etc.) so I don't HAVE to call her!
Kids are great, huh? They are passing it on to everyone, but WHY did it have to hit me THIS week of all weeks???!!! We had been well all winter, too!
Thanks!

I wouldn't want to risk exposing my client and especially her new baby to a vicious cold, I'd call in my backup.

Aw, that really stinks but I agree, it's not fair to that new little baby to be greeted with a nasty cold. I'll keep you in my that you'll feel better and be able to attend after all.

As much as it would suck - you need to call the backup.

The good thing about a cold is there is probably only a couple of days when it is really really bad.
<sp>
If she goes into labor during that time, you really should call in your backup - you don't want to get mom, dad, or baby sick, plus if you have a bad cold, you are not going to be at your best for helping mom either.

Any news? Did a good night's rest help?

I hope you feel better before she has her baby! But, I agree, if you're still sick I'd call the backup. That's what they're for!

Thanks!
I KNOW better than to take a cold to the birth/baby/mother.
I kinda just wanted to know if anyone else had this predicament.
My b/u doula is on-call as of now. I have been sick since last Fri, so I am hoping it will be leaving very soon. My client is kinda upset about the possibility of me NOT being there. Oh well, what can you do? Pray for the baby to hold on a little longer?! LOL The mom says she hopes he does, because of this!

Well, sure. Colds, flu, intestinal distress, food poisoning, horrible periods, etc. I've run the gamut. I find that if mom really wants me there, her body will usually wait until I'm back on call.

I think if you do this for any length of time that you've gone through a cold/flu/illness hoping and praying they don't go into labor....and usually they don't.
As far as your client being upset - like you said, what are you going to do? It's out of your control!
I hope you are feeling better soon and that you client waits for you!
