Getting back after having a baby

Well, my son will be 4 months old soon and I'm starting to wonder when we'll be ready for me to get back to taking clients. I know he's not ready yet, but I've usually been hired a few months before my clients due dates. I had planned on it being at least a year, but I'm wondering if 9-10 months might work -- If he sleeps well at night and takes a bottle of pumped milk from my husband.

If you've gone through this how long did you wait? Should I start getting my name out there again now?

I started doula work when Henry was 7 months old. I think my first baby was born on his 7 month birthday, if I'm remembering correctly! It was hard, ESPECIALLY the next two births which were both over 30 hours. I think I'm going to wait until this next baby is a year, unless it's a homebirth or a previous client. Good luck deciding!

Personally, I would wait until he's ready BEFORE I took any clients. You don't wanna take the chance if you accept a client for say, 3 mo 's from now and when the date approaches you still don't feel like he's ready kwim???

Good point. I can tell this boy is probably going to stay pretty attached for awhile. I'm just starting to get the bug again!

I really felt called to wait until my youngest was 11 months old. I got back in the swing of things this year & have been busier than expected. That is a good thing in this business.
