In the poll about what instructions to leave the babysitter for kids... someone mentioned instructions about how not to call and not to expect a returned call anytime soon. I was wondering what most folks did.
I have my phone on "meeting" -- it beeps once and then vibrates. I don't answer it but if I have hands free I'll take a peek at the caller ID. My DH and I have a system that if it's really urgent, he'll call back right away and then I'll know it's not him calling to ask where the extra marshmallows are, or something trivial like that. At any rate, I just don't feel comfortable turning my phone off entirely.
What do you do?

Mine is on vibrate. I leave my client's first and last name, and the hospital that I will be at with dp. If there is a true emergency, she can call the hospital and give the client's name to get in touch with me.

Mine is on vibrate and in my pocket. My family will text me, and I check between ctx.
If it is a call, I will check it, and answer if I can. If not it will go to voice mail and I will call them back.
My clients are fine with this. They know that I have a family, and a life, and other clients. One time even purilator courier was phoning.

I'll also check my phone for missed calls or messages during any "down time" that I get, in case of emergencies or if another client is trying to reach me.
Mine is also kept on vibrate and in my pocket. My DH will mostly text me (along with a certain friend who likes updates ), and I text back briefly when I get a few seconds here and there. If I get a call, I just check it when/if I can, but I rarely make a call back. If I'm busy when my phone vibrates, I just ignore it until I can take a peek.
I typically have it on vibrate. The other day at my birth I had it on vibrate and the lowest ring setting.. I thought I turned it all the way down! But everyone knows I will answer if I can.... and call twice if its urgent, and ONLY if its urgent, lol!!
Good question! I always put mine on vibrate because if I don't my phone will not show missed calls, not everyone leaves messages. I check it when I can. Sometimes I even like to use my phone as a contraction timer using the stopwatch feature.

I also keep mine set to vibrate while at the hospital. If I'm not able to answer (usually cannot), then the caller can leave a voice mail. I check voice mails when I have down time or can take a quick bathroom break, but it may be a while. If dh or ds needs me and it is an absolute emergency, they are instructed to call the nurses station at the hospital so they can fetch me.
I HATE texting so I don't do it (I have even had my provider block all incoming texts for my number).
I have it on, usually it's on ring, and the only people that would call would be my daughter's schools or my family in an emergency or a client. I try to remember to put it on vibrate, but I often forget.
I did amuse a anesthesiologist once when my older daughter's school was calling to see why she wasn't in school and I was supporting a woman while she was getting an epidural. He started humming along to The Little Mermaid which was the default ringer at the time, he looked a bit embarrassed and said he had daughters LOL
