What do you do about night time childcare?

My husband is a firefighter, we have two children (3 and 1) with one due in March. Hubbys shifts are 24 hours on and 48 hours off. I just got my first client, since he started as a firefighter, and am now wondering what I am going to do with my kiddos if my client goes into labor on a night that he is not home. I am hoping there are some other doulas/moms in my situation who can give me some advice.

Get a baby sitter who can go on call for you. Get one now so you have time to develop a relationship with her. One that will just come to your home and sleep at a moments notice is handy so your kids can remain asleep, not be in an unfamiliar place, and you can go at a moment's notice.

Hire a babysitter. Or like Becky said...3 or 4. Some who will hopefully come to your house. If not you are bundling up sleeping kids at 2am to take them to the sitter.

Hey Lindsay! I was wondering the same thing, but my mom lives with us so I always have her and my DH here. But for during the day, 8am-7pm my DH isn't able to watch them, he works from home but is always needing to be at his desk, so I have 3 sitters I found through craigslist and they all are on my list if I need a sitter last minute. Also, I arranged for my best friend to be "on-call" also, my kids kno her well, love her like a second mom, so it fits perfect, and I agreed to pay her well for watching them if need be. Call me if you need some names of sitters, I have a GREAT weekly nanny that lives in Franklin and is looking for work!
