Grrrrr! My whole birthstory thread got erased
My husband plopped my daughter's foot right on the keyboard by accident andall my typing got deleted.
I'm to aggrivated to retype the whole thing right now so here's a tiny summary.
Momma with gestational diabetes on medication. Also has excessive fluid. Water bursts at 36 weeks and 4 days.
Goes to the hospital, put on pitocin which works well. Nurse perhaps a little eager and turns it up every 15 minutes. nurse also a little too eager to blab on and on about pain killers even though mom is coping beautifully.
Momma opts for an epidural after many hours. 30 minutes after epi, MAJOR decel in baby lasts about 2 minutes. Baby's BPM down to 60-70. So scary. Mom flipped from side to side, pit turned off, finally to hands and knees position. finally baby's rate goes back up. Then mom's BP drops. She gets lightheaded, dizzy, groggy. Everyone is scared and nurse mentions possible c-section.
Doc comes and everything looks ok. Tells them to start pit back up at half the dose as before. After about 30 minutes another decel, this time only lasting about 30 seconds.
Mom never got past 5 cms. Stayed there for hours. Interuterine pressure catheter was placed showing strong contractions, just no progress. Epi quite working altogether. Dad started to get angry about mom's pain, even though we were all trying everything we could.
Ended in c-section...they had to use the vacuum during the c-section because he was so wedged in there. Use of vacuum was mom's biggest fear, even over c-section. Poor thing. Baby was 7lbs 2 ozs at 36 weeks and 4 days, 21 inches. We came out with a cut above his eyebrow. Not sure what that was from and didn't feel that it was the right time to ask about it.
Questions-
*Anyone else have a client with vacuum in c-section?
*What percentage of your clients end up in the OR for cesarean?
*Baby is having trouble sucking and swallowing, what can I suggest for her?
