I'm meeting my first client today.

I've got an appointment today to talk with my first client.

She's got pre-e and is on bedrest. She just got out of the hospital on Wednesday and had been in there for a week. She's 34w along and her OB wants to induce her at 37w. She's really pretty scared about the what's been going on.

Talking Congratulations, Heather!

How exciting to be working with your first client! Please let us know how it goes! I'm glad that you're there for her. Since she's scared, the two of you should try to talk things out together as much as you can. See if you can get her to open up about her fears, as unresolved fears can really inhibit labor.

I talked with her today for about an hour and a half. I think we really clicked. She's going to give me a call tomorrow after her OB appointment to meet with me again. I did have some trouble getting her partner to say anything. He spend our whole discussion playing on his X-box.

Oh, don't you just hate that?! I had a client once that her partner also played video games the whole time I was there. He didn't want anything to do with what I was teaching or working with mama on. I later found out the reason he didn't was because he was just so scared of the whole process, and when it came time for the mama to give birth he was with her for hours and hours, but when at the hospital it got to be too much for him. He ended up making an excuse that he had to work the next day and couldn't miss work and had to go home to sleep. Mama was crushed, but he went home and shortly thereafter mama gave birth. He ended up coming back to the hospital and didn't go to work the next day. I concluded he was just so frightened that he didn't know what else to do.

I hope that either the dad comes around and that it all works out

Just curious did she hire you since you are meeting her again? Please remember that you should sign a contract and if you are charging a fee get part of that from her so that you aren't continually working for nothing and then she decides she doesn't want a doula. Then you would have put in all this work for nothing.
