Venting..about a doctor

Ok...I have a client who wants to do a vbac....and is due on the 25th of next month but is having a induction on the 11th. I am not sure about the inducation...I am going to talk to her this friday to see what she says about the idea of having a inducation. I do know she had a 9 lb and has GD.

This such short notice I got a call from a midwife to see if I could help last thrusday....meet with the mom friday. I am used to moms contacting months ahead time not weeks. Oh well I am excited the midmife thought of ME.

Well just wanted to vent..wish the mom some good vibes.

yeah, the induction part is a little scary! I understand the VBAC's are safer than a C-sec etc and who wouldn't prefer a vaginal birth but all that I have read is that VBACs and pitocin don't mix...anyone else have a good link about this or some info Susan can give this mom?

That is so sad that this doctor wants to induce. This mama has a much better chance of having a vaginal birth if she goes as natural as possible which means no induction. Could you potentially share information with her on the risks associated with inductions for VBAC mamas.

Honestly it sounds to me like her doctor is "letting" her try for a vaginal birth but is helping her along to moving into a cesarean birth.

You might check out ICAN's website...there should be good info there about VBACs and induction. The two don't mix and should be avoided if at all possible.

Talking Congratulations on the VBAC, Susan!!!!

Yep....I've done the 30 hour thing before. My last two births, in fact, were 24 hours and 30 hours respectively. Here's hoping that my next one will be somewhat shorter! It's really tough, I know, but don't worry; they won't all be that long. I had one birth where I showed up at the hospital at 8 AM (with mom at 5 cm); we had a baby, I went grocery shopping, and was home all by noon! My absolute shortest was 30 minutes at the hospital before birth! So...as you can see....you just never know whether it's going to be 30 minutes (not counting postpartum support time), or 30+ hours!!! That's doula-life!

It sounds like you did a great job, Susan! Now...get some rest!
