How do I find a mentor doula??

I need to observe two births for the CBE training. Plus, I'd like to have someone IRL to help me thru those first few births I do.

I've joined a local doula group and have emailed (twice) about my training and what I need to do. I'm not trying to find someone to do all the legwork for me but I figured someone might know what instructors are open to observers and which classes are good, etc. kwim? Not ONE reply so far. I know maybe the ladies are just super busy and don't check the email often and maybe not all are on the yahoogroup. It's still VERY discouraging!!!

How on earth am I going to find someone to hook up with for these births???

Wink Try calling them!

You'd be surprised at the number of people who do not regularly check their emails! The last doula that I had mentored contacted me by phone. It may make them more comfortable with the idea after they personally hear from you what you have in mind. Don't limit this to the doulas in the group, either; you could do a search to find out who else is out there that is within reasonable driving distance from you. I'd personally call up some CBEs, too, to see how open they are to having a doula attend class and what their general thoughts on doulas are. That's what I did, and it worked out great for me! Thanks!

I just talked to my mw and she helped me out some (we've been playing phone tag for weeks... ). There is a natural parenting/AP store in the area and they have classes, doula service, and products they sell (slings, etc). I have emailed the co-owner before and we chatted some about me being in with their doulas eventually. Don't know why I didn't think to check there. Duh.

So I just called and left a message. There is a Bradley class starting on Tuesday night. It's 12wks so I could get my 10hrs in for CBE. I could continue until the end to fulfill the LD childbirth class requirement. They also have a breastfeeding class every month.

Guess I better send off for that cert. packet!!! Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!
