referrals

How many times do you referral moms to other doulas?

and

How many times do you think the other doulas referral you?

I am always referral moms to other doulas but I don't have hear from the doula again after they get the client. I think at least I should get a thank-you or something or better yet referral back to me.

Unfortunately, as in every profession, not everyone has the same moral standard. I am very lucky in my area to have a personal relationship with the other doulas so it is not an issue.

But I do agree that it would be nice for someone to say thank you for a referral.

Susan, What kind of relationship do you all have? In my community, referrals are so common. Of course a thank you is nice but it's easily forgotten, sadly.

My suggestion -- organize a potluck so you all can get to know each other. Then, maybe arrange to do continuing ed once every other month, with someone taking on, say "Persistent OP," someone else "the high-risk mother".

HTH!

I always invite my clients to interview other doulas in the area and if I cannot provide a service I will send them to our local group. I believe that many of the doulas in the area do the same because on more than one occasion I have received calls from people who will say "so and so referred me to you". I feel very fortunate because in my area for the most part we have all become friends. We look forward to seeing one another at the monthly meetings - which I am having major withdrawl from because the last four months I have either been working or this past month had to study.

Just curious, but do you make sure that you tell the client to let the other doula know that you referred her? Maybe they don't know.

The think is they do know..... I always email or call the doula to see if they like to meet up with mom before I give the mom any names that way I don't waste the moms time or the doula time.

I am unable to meet with the other doulas...the only way I know the doulas are by phone calls and emails.
