First 'official' prenatal appt.

So...I had my first prenatal with a new client and I think it went GREAT! Good practice for the next one I have tomorrow. The only thing I questioned myself on was the following:

I have this little sheet that I went over where it lists interventions, etc. and has the mom rate how she feels about it. Well, when we got to episiotomy my client was like 'oh hell no' and her mom (who will be present at the birth and is generally VERY supportive) was like 'no, you DO want that if the baby is too big'. Then they both kind of looked at me as if wanting to know what I thought. I didn't want to preach or debate with mom (bad for business AND who am I to say that HER experience is not 'normal'. Her mom said that she had epis with first child and there was no pain afterwards and she didn't see why they didn't always do it). Anyway, I just looked back at my client and said, 'so you obviously don't want to be cut and I can get you some information on epis and perineal tears, etc'. She said she didn't want any info. Then I said 'well your Dr will not cut unless absolutely necessary so hopefully this is a moot point (b/c her doc is VERY well known for his low epis rate. He's not American (no offense to anyone meant) and he can work a perineum like nobody's business! Lol

Anyway...did I have the correct response? Would you have done/said something differently? I wonder what I should have done if she had a DIFFERENT doc that I didn't know whether they were scissor happy.

Thanks, as always!
