Lightbulb Doula Training Class

I referred all of the women in my Labor support Course to this website, as well as bellywomen.net because this is an AMAZING web-resource for women and I want to share it with every doula, and potential doula!

I will post more about my experience tomorrow (my last day).

I just feel so connected after only 3 days, and tomorrow making 4. It is going to be hard having to say goodbye to everyone. I feel very changed and honored to have met and shared that experience with each and everyone there.

I'm glad that you're enjoying it, Cortney! That's exactly how I felt about my training. I've heard many other doulas say the same. It's a special field made up of special women, indeed!!!! I can't wait to hear more about your training!

Lightbulb woohoo!

So, tonight was the last night and I just wanted to share what my experience was like.

I immediately felt a connection with the girl sitting next to me and thought "wow, I might actually make some friends in Seattle who understand me." Throughout the hours, conversations, videos, tears, and 4 days together so much inside me changed. I learned so much more about myself and who I am as a Doula. I felt so connected and genuinly understood, that everything I said was really listened to, that I was really heard. I felt so much respect and inspiration hearing the stories of the other women.

It is hard to write a lot about how the four days with those women made me feel and change. It is such an indescribable feeling to go from mere strangers in the same class, to knowing names and some introduction, to feeling sisterhood and openness.

I just know that we're all taking a little piece of each other home, and even still they will hear from me via phone and internet.

*And I cannot wait to meet the women in my Postpartum Doula training*

Hi Cortney! It's me Jenna from Doula training! I just got home (long story) and came to this site on your suggestion! I haven't looked around much yet but it looks great! I saw your post right away and wanted to say it was an amazing experience for me too. I was very impressed with your determination and the fact you know so well what you want from life at such a young age!

I hope we can keep in contact, have your received an email yet? I hope we do get an email list started!

(hug)

That's so AWESOME! and EXCITING! I can't WAIT until my training in Feb. I'm so disappointed that I wasn't able to make the one in October...but all things happen for a reason!!!

That is true! I originally planned to take my classes in a different order, and at other times...so the women I met at that class I know I was meant to meet. There was such an immediate connection I felt that we were all supposed to be there, each and every one of us.

Hi Cortney, I am glad you enjoyed your training...I know I enjoyed my training. ...what I like the most about the training was that everyone knew what a doula was and everyone whated to be doula just like me....I was feeling a little loney in the doula world. I am glad I took my training.

WooHoo! Good for you Cortney. I remember 14 years ago I attended my first La Leche League regional conference (N. ca/HI). I sat in the parking lot and cried because there were other crazy women just like me!

Which organization did you train through? Was it DONA, ALACE, or Cappa? And what part of the country? Who was the instructor?

Do tell!

yep yep

I am certifying through DONA and later I will be certifying through PALS & NAPS which are local organizations in Seattle, WA. My instructors: Sandy and Carrie. (I don't remember their last names).

Now I am just working out all the business details, and working on saving up money for my postpartum doula training.
