A Student Doula Newsletter?
Hi All,
I was just wondering how many, if any, of you would be interested in a free newsletter for student doulas. I have plenty of ideas, but would like to know what everyone thinks before taking it TOO far.
Thanks so much,
Heidi

Thanks everyone for all the great feedback. I would love to press forward with this idea. The name of the newsletter will be, The Birth Doula.
Some of the ideas I have are: techniques of the week for student doulas, stories of inspiration from student doulas (to encourage and motivate us), some sort of trivia question that which will enable you to win a free prize from me (right now I have doula bumper stickers, doula snack packs, cute rick socks, and massagers), a birthing tradition (in another country), and resources. I would also like to include feature articles such as how to start a hospital doula program, how to market yourself as a doula, great ideas for student doulas, successful tips for getting clients, how to set up resources in your community, etc.
Please, feel free to send me what you'd like to see in The Birth Doula. What would help you? What do you think isn't covered enough during training, or that you find you still have tons of questions about?
I think this could be great! Thanks for all your feedback. I can't wait!!!

As a writer who routinely overcommits, I know how hard it is to follow through on something like a newsletter. I was wondering, if New Orleans Doula was having any trouble devoting enough time to the newsletter project, if maybe a blog might be the perfect solution?
You can set up free blogs at places like Blogger.com and publish articles and weekly tips as you have time to do it. Other doulas can submit articles to the blog to be postes (or , if you are not worrying about editting the work first, you can give some authros rights to post on the blog themselves).
Just an idea.

The blog idea is a good one. It would allow updates to happen more often than a paper newsletter. I would be happy to help in anyway needed.

Blog or paper, I think it is a wonderful idea! I'd like to see how to structure interviews? I know you usually do 2-4 meetings, but I don't know what to discuss and when?
I'd really like to know how others do it? And also, just off the top of my head if you give your clients like bags with stuff in it when they sign, what kind of stuff do you put in it?
Okay that's me done!
Cheers,
K.
