My first "client" help me prepare!

Ok, I have a friend that has agreed for me to be her doula.. I know there is some things I have to have her fill out for DONA for my certification but what other infomation do you all give your clients to help them prepare? She doesn't have internet access so she can't get online.. I am taking my CB classes now and I have told her to come along, cause this is her first baby and she is clueless! She is due April 1st. Do you "teach" her also? Or do you just let her ask you q's and you answer? I know they say at least 2-3 prenatal visits, then 2-3 postpartum.. I will also need help getting info for PP too.. Thanks!!

Well, I have a set "curriculum" that I go over at each prenatal. I do this because I want to know that mom and I are on the same page, and then if she wants more information I will give it to her. I have done births for family members though and in those cases I don't go over anything with them because I know them so well and they have listened to me babble over and over again on the subject LOL

There was a previous thread where we discussed prenatals and what each of us goes over. As far as postpartum visits - I don't know too many doulas that do three postpartum visits. I typically see the mom the day after the birth in the hospital, call her the day she comes home and then arrange for a home visit.

Candice,

Take a look at this thread: Prenatal/postpartum visit(s) which you might find helpful . Within that thread (post #13), I've also posted another thread that actually includes outlines that some of the ladies here use. Those outlines helped me so much!! HTHs!!
