Certification From More Than One Organization
When you certify with say CAPPA, do you have to take the DONA course to certify with them or do they recognize the CAPPA training?

I imagine if you certify with CAPPA you have to take a CAPPA training.

The trainings do not transfer over, so if you want to certify with both you must take the training with each of them and follow the requirements for certification that each has in place. I am certified with both

Just curious.. If you become a certified doula with DONA, why would you want to become certified with CAPPA too? Vice versa..

Maybe I'm confused. I see that some people are members of both DONA and CAPPA, or am I wrong. I thought there were a few. I just wondered why you would be with both.
Sorry if that is confusing.

You're correct (not confused! ). There might be others on alldoulas, I'm not sure; but, DoulaVal and tlcdoula (Michelle) are certified doulas with both DONA and CAPPA. Your other question is an excellent one, as I have sometimes wondered the same thing (re: why one would want/decide to certify in both?).

Hmmmm, that is a hard one to answer For me I certified with both because I liked what both groups had to offer. Plus at the time I was a sponge looking to soak up as much informatin as possible, so I couldn't possibly take trainings and not go all the way through without certifying. For those who don't know me I am on a constant quest to learn - my dh calls me a lifelong learner. I started out with my bachelors degree in education, got my masters degree in education and while doing that worked on becoming DONA certified. From there it lead to me certifying with CAPPA as a doula, postpartum doula, childbirth educator and adoption support. I also got certified for the happiest baby and then moved into certifying in hypnotherapy. Now I am moving onto becoming a certified/licensed massage therapist. I see all of the last things as one business - working with pregnant and new families. I love learning and hence my many certifications. I believe learning should never end and I am not the type of person to do anything halfway LOL
Hope that kind of answered your question.

Wouldnt CAPPA and DONA basically have the same infomation? I mean I can see doing a birth doula though DONA and then PP doula though CAPPA, but why have 2 birth doula cert's?

Honestly you learn different information from every trainer that you go through a training with. What one trainer teaches can be very different from what another trainer will teach because each has differing background and experience. As far as why - I explained that above

Certification from more than one organization
On another natural parenting board I visit there was a post that stated she was getting her certification through two organizations at the same time. She was choosing to do that because they were both heavily represented in her area.
How does that work? Can you count the births for both organizations or do you just have to do more births? Just wondering.

I would think that the births could count for BOTH certs as long as they met the specific criteria for each organization. I really can't think of a reason that they wouldn't.
I'm not sure why someone would get the same certification from 2 different organizations. That's interesting.

I thought it was interesting as well. I had not heard of anyone doing it like that. I know of some who do doula training through one organization and pp training from another ~ but that's different than getting certified as a birth doula from more than one organization.

I know of one lady who has done that...or is doing it. Can't remember which.
Her main reason for adding the DONA LD was b/c of DONA's popularity. She thought she would attract more clients having that.

I've thought about becoming a member of other organizations to be listed on their referral sites, and also to get the org. publication, but I'm not going to cross-certify.

It may be because CAPPA has the dual cert program?
