If you had to recommend one book.....
To a client what would it be????
Also if you had to recommend one book to a fellow doula in training what would it be??

I think the client book would be Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn by Simkin, et al.
For a doula? I swear right now you must all read Misconceptions! It is fabulously amazing.

Ditto!
Then after they read that and they are closer to due date, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin.
For a doula...The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin and Ina May's Guide to Childbirth

For the mainstream couple that my read only one book I recommend The Birth Book, Sears. I agree with The Birth Partner for the doula (I even asked my dad client to read it and he did).

I think as far as the couple it depends on thir prior knowledge and what they seemed informed about. (maybe if they have already had children, etc)
For a family unsure about birthing choices, etc I would suggest gentle birth choices and also pregnancy childbirth and the newborn *I know I know, I picked 2*
For a family who knew a bit more about birth and seemed to be leaning toward a homebirth (maybe their first homebirth) I would suggest adventures in natural childbirth and/or ina may's guide to childbirth.
As for Doulas I would recommend The birth partner and Mothering the mother.

DITTO again! These would also be my picks. Just ONE? Now, that's just too hard!
Honestly, though, ALL of the books mentioned so far are really great. I haven't read "Misconceptions", but Stacie has definitely sparked my interest!!

For me it would be Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. For other Doulas the first thing I recomend is AllDoulas! That way they can get all sorts of info and then choose from there. Another one I like is A Child is Born, not for comfort measures, more so the parent's can see that they have a human being in there!

"The Mother of All Pregnancy Books" for both Doulas and parents. It has a very balanced view of just about everything you could think of having to do with pregnancy, birth and post pardum.
I LOVE THIS BOOK!!
