Midwifery distance course...
Does anyone have any experience with this school? Or know anything further about it?
Thanks!

Am I getting this right ...one first takes the distance program for a year then go to MA for a two week workshop?
Would this mean if one take this course one would be a CPM or become a laywife?
It does state it is "MANA standard".
I was thinking about becoming a midwife assistant ....this is way I am asking.

I'm not sure. I contacted them to get the specifics. Doesn't it sound FANTASTIC?
Finances is what's been my hold us as far as midwifery school goes. But those classes are rather cheap (compared to what I've seen). Lol It seems too good to be true.
I did specifically ask about taking the NARM exam and LM or CPM licensure. I will keep you posted!

It looks great.
I'm doing the distance program through a midwifery school in OR and it's similiar except we are on our own for finding preceptors which can be really hard. The school you're looking appears to set you up with a preceptor, at least that's what I gather from the website.
It sounds like you will be prepared to sit for the NARM exam upon completion of the program...I don't think it's MEAC accredited so you would be keeping a portfolio as you go to record everything you do. If you pass the NARM exam you receive your certification as a professional midwife (CPM) and then you would have to do further requirements such as attending more births and sitting for the state exam if you wanted to become licensed (LM) in your state.
The price seems comparable to the school I'm going thru and usually you can pay as you go with a distance program so that could be a plus. And if you really look you may be able to find a scholarship.
Let us know what you decide. If I were in that area I'd attend in a heartbeat.

This is how it is set up. The fee is 50$ for registration and Unit 1. After you finish Unit 1 you mail it in with the 25$ for the next unit. (She grades your work and the 2 tests for each Unit, etc). So, for 30 units, yes, it is 800$. They have skills weekends that she told me were like 40$..everyone brings food and chips in, etc. and it sounds like a GREAT DEAL. I would really recommend joining the email list and maybe considering if this may be a good deal for you. I have most of the required reading in my lending library already. I have had to buy some books..but it is still a great deal. A lot of self study but it is structured and she is there to answer questions to help guide you if need be.
Later,

Susan..I did not hear back from anyone on the womancraft course...and you're right, the website isn't up to date. BUT I am glad to have found New Life Homebirth's Midwifetobe program. Looks very promising for a financially deficient gal like me!

I have and the woman, Lisa, is really nice and enthusiastic. If you read Fruitful4Him's post above that's how it really works! She said in the state of SC they do the NARM and you can get licensed. But it does vary from state to state. I'm not sure what you do for apprenticeship, etc. but the fast track course work alone takes about 3 years so there's plenty of time to figure all that out (for me anyway).
