Talking It's official!!!!

I'm a Doula-in-training! I just finished my course and it was awesome. It was a nice small group and the Trainer was wonderful. I'm a little scared now about the next step....actually attending a birth but I think I'm ready for it.

Wish me luck!

K.

Talking Congratulations, Doula!

How exciting, Kimberley! Congratulations! Just so you know, it's perfectly normal to be pretty nervous about attending your first birth. You can use that nervousness to help you to strive to be your best, though. Hey, I've attended 12 births so far, and I still get the butterflies because each birth is so different! If you follow your heart, your hands and voice will follow too. You'll be great!

Yeah to you!!! I found I kept saying I was training to be a doula until I attended my first birth. After that I started saying I am a doula in the process of certification. For some reason I needed that experience to take myself seriously! Congratulations!!!

Yahoo! I can remember driving home from the last day of my training and saying to myself 'I'm a doula!' I know it sounds stupid but I felt I had a name for what I had been doing for friends (other than attending their births) and although the training was wonderful and important, there was nothing that made me think "Wow, I never would have thought of that!" I just attended my 18th and 19th births this past week and I must agree with Lori - there is that sense of nervousness - each momma and each birth is so different while essential the same! Congrats! I look forward to hearing your first birth story! R

That's a great feeling! I was nervous for my first several births too, it's amazing how all the nerves seemed to go away as soon as I got down to doulaing

Thank you All!

Lori, I love that part about following your heart. That is great.
Robyn, I totally did that on the way home. I told my kids, "if anyone asks you what your mommy does, tell them she's a Doula"

Thanks Christy. And thanks for leading me to this wonderful forum. I found my strength here to keep motivated.

Thanks LeAnne!

Okay off to bed now. Tomorrow I wake a Doula!

I remember that I felt *official* when I was at my ds's ped appt and they asked "Mother's Occupation" and I finally was able to put Doula. Of course this was way before I went to my training, but I know exactly how you feel!

Proud of you!
