WIC anyone?

Does anyone volunteer with WIC? I have taught breastfeeding type classes there and although I do not currently do that, I have made some awesome contacts over the years and I am able to participate in some of the continueing education that they offer..often for FREE. Helps with those CEU's often needed for recertification, etc.

Just thought that I would mention.. and ask if anyone else did this type of thing.

Hey... I thought for sure that we talked about this before.. but I looked through some of our old posts and I can't find it anywhere! Yeah, WIC is a great place to go to market yourself and get clients. I don't know so much about the LC CEU's and all, but as a birth doula they are great. They are telling all of their participants now about us and we are getting referrals from them.

I used to work for Chickasaw Nation WIC in Oklahoma. They were great about sending me to trainings and conferences. But was very strictly against me even mentioning or promoting my doula business in anyway.

I have also volunteered with WIC. The local one I worked with had no problem with me discussing Postpartum Doula services, however, few of the WIC moms were really in the market for one.
For me, the most valuable aspect was how much I learned. I encountered situations and so many more breastfeeding moms than I ever could in my private Doula practice! This real-life experience has been incredibly helpful.
I found it to be a very positive experience that really helped compliment my Doula work--especially since, as a volunteer, I could focus my efforts more between clients.
