Question certifications?

Does it help to be certified by more than one organization? Either just for the extra training, or from client standpoint, etc...

I don't think so. But that's my personal opinoin. I know that some people do certify through different orginazations. I think the most important things are education and experience.

I don't think you can ever have too much training, though. Since every trainer is different and every group of women training is different I think you could learn new things at different trainings. I do agree that experience will probably look the best in a potential clients eyes but if you are a new doula and have a fair amount of "competition" it might help you to be able to say you have trained with more than one organization. For me (and most of us) it is just so much money, though. I feel my money is better spent going for different certifications (like lactation or cbe). That way you can offer more services. And that obviously looks good to potential clients.

A quick note on that question....
Does it help to be certified by more than one organization? Either just for the extra training, or from client standpoint, etc...

I believe that it looks more professional when you stick to one organization. This shows stability and professionalism.

1 - set of beliefs, not 4 or 5. 1 - set of Code of Ethics, 1 - Standard of Practice etc....

My personal opinion of course.

I don't really have an opinion one way or the other on multiple certifications (I assume for the same specialty), but I'm ALACE, but I'd love to take one of the DONA advanced doula trainings in my state. I've heard so many good things about the trainers here, I'd like to spend some time with them. But first I need some actual doula experience.

On the flip side I have had people hire me because I was certified through more than one group. They saw my extra training, education and certification as a bonus and saw me as a very dedicated individual to have done more work than was necessary to just have one certification.
