Why did you decide to put midwifery to the side, if I may ask?

Well.. It will be quicker to get my CLE and PP doula for one, then it would cost less.. I just wanted to get those out of the way then work on my midwifery course.. I am still in decided about the long distance midwifery course, I;m worried about having all that money for the NARM testing and then the apprenticeship too.. *sigh* I really wish there was a easier way to do that, like a set schedule type plan you know? Dh said he really doesnt care either way.. I just don't know! I want to do everything birth related.. LOL

I also have this fear in the back of my mind that I'm not smart enough to complete all that book work too. With 3 kids, I dont know if I will have the study time and all.. So if I get the CLE and pp doula out of the way there is alot more work required to get those through the distance course so that can somewhat prepare me too, if that makes sense.

Are you going through CAPPA to do this or somewhere else? I'm extremely interested in doing the same thing after I get my CLA from ALACE. ALACE offers a distance CBE too which I eventually want to do as well.

Cool Erika!! I can't believe it's already been a year!!

Yes, I am planning on doing the distance course through CAPPA for both my PP doula and CLE.. I am 100% certain about the CLE, I will still go through CAPPA for PP doula only if I can't find a workshop close to me.. Basically I am working more on my CLE right now.. I'm trying to get the books together and alll that first.

Candice, I'm working on my birth and PP doula certs through DONA and my CLE thru Cappa. Like you I'm getting these done first and getting my Doula business established before I apply to Midwives College of Utah which is a distance learning program. They seem to have it pretty mapped out for the 3-4 years of classes you take before sitting the NARM. Have you looked into MCU? I also saw that midwif today had a really good spread on midwifery schools in their last issue. Did you look at that?

I'm also really worried about the book work and classes. I graduated high school in 1983 and have no college experience. I just keep telling myself that if this is what God and Goddess intend for me they will help me to make it happen.

OK, I'm off to Charlie's team party for baseball. To tell the truth I'd rather hang out here on AllDoula's.

I'm worried about that too, so I figured getting my PP and CLE's now will help prepare me since its alot of essays and such which I really HATE doing.. LOL

Well, I took the distance CAPPA PP program. Is there anything particular you want to know about it?

TLC, how hard was it to write those essays? I think it said one essay per book and I need to read 5 books? Or am I wrong? I am a little confused on their book list for both PP and CLE about which are mandatory and which ones I can choose from. Maybe its the format that I printed it out in too..

Did you start working with PP clients before you were certified? Don't you need so many in with essays on those before you can become certified?? I've read it before but my brain isnt working today.

Let me start by saying that I took mine awhile back and I know things have changed. As far as how hard it was to write essays I can write very easily, so for me it was quick, easy and painless. You will need to check and see if you need to read 5 books and write 5 essays or not because I don't know. You can contact CAPPA at info@cappa.net to find out the correct information. Did you purchase your certification packet? If so, then the information would be in there too.

PP doula work is not my mainstay and it isn't something that is high on my priority for working. I have never advertised it and only did it through word of mouth (small handful of mamas). So for me I didn't do pp work before I started working on my certification, but instead the mamas I worked with were the ones for my certification.

You do need to work with a certain number of mamas and complete all the other stuff for certification in order to be certified. If you haven't done so already I would purchase a certification packet so that you know exactly what you are doing especially since if they change the rules and you haven't purchased the packet then things could change. For example, with one of my certifications I started reading the books and purchased the packet and then they changed the reading list. Had I not purchased my packet then I might have had to start over with the readings.
