I think when looking at training as a CBE you need to first decide where you plan to go with your training and what is accepted in your area. For example, I trained through CAPPA because I had planned on only working for myself. Well, things changed and a job opened that I wanted - unfortunately most of the area hospitals will not accept my training through CAPPA and will only honor Lamaze or ICEA. So now I am certifying through ICEA and spending even more money. The training prices were comparable but now instead of only going through the process once I am doing it again.

So, seriously think about what path you would like to take and if you plan on working for anyone else - even if you don't plan on it you might want to find out who the hospital accepts and go with one of them.

I'm currently going thru CAPPA. At training we put together a class outline which was nice to have a base to get started from. Other than the training it's just reading, some class observations, observing births and the test. All the info is on their site. I like CAPPA because while I have the organization behind me, I am free to make the class mine. I'm not required to teach from a curriculum that I might not agree with 100%.

I'd love to do ALACE's some day. I've heard really good things about their program. It's just a little more $$ than I can manage right now.
