Lactation educator training
hi,
i was wondering if any of you did the Cappa lactation educator training.
if you did, what are you doing with it? how has it helped you in your work?
did you go to a workshop or do the distance learning option?
thanks,
mavis

I did/am and I am doing the distance option. I have finished all the reading LLL series classes, Breastfeeding Class (not the $125.00 that you have to take online). I still have to write ALL thoes papers they require for the distance ed Cert. That is what is KILLING me, I just don't have time to sit a write 3 papers.. I hope I am finished with it By January at least that is my goal.
Oh, I took this class so I could teach bf classes with my Doula. I have since found out that by me being an LLL Leader I can teach, so that is one of the reasons I am not a GUNG-HO as I was before I found out that little tid-bit of info.

I took a training here in NC with April Howton in January and loved it! At the time I really wasn't sure how I would use it, I really wanted the extra knowledge on breastfeeding I've nursed my 3 babies but never really had any troubles (other then plugged ducts). Now I'll be using it to teach breastfeeding classes at the center and host support groups

None yet, once the center is open we will begin offering nursing moms support groups and postpartum support groups. Regi's looking into getting a LLL support group started here too.

You may be able to bring one to your area since there aren't any. Laura Nance brought April in from Alabama to do that one in Jan, she had a good amount of people taking it.

If there aren't any training in your area call Cappa and see if you could host one. Some of the organizations will comp your workshop fee if you help set the workshop up. I've done this with Alace and Dona.
I'm working on my CLE through Cappa. I did the training a few months ago and intend to finish up all my writing and such in the next month or so.
I decided to get my CLE because I was an active LLL Leader for 8 years. I have tons of experience with teaching and doing bf support but I couldn't advertise it. You can't represent LLL after you retire. So for me it was about getting the letters behind my name to show that I have a lot of bf experience.
I'd like to use my CLE to teach bf classes and also for new mom support. I'd love to have a store front that is shared among CBE's, Doula's. Lact. Consult and we offer new mom support, different classes, etc. I'd like to have a little store toward the front with used clothing and things made by our families like arts and crafts or whatever.
There a group here in Sac called Mother's Support Network www.motherssupportnetwork.org I'd like to do something like what they do. For now I'm just doula-ing and working on certifications. I just keep telling myself that it takes a long time to build a business. Especially in this career.

I really want to do this training when I done (or close to being done) with my Labor Doula training. Guess I should start saving for it now.
