Visiting Birthwise Midwifery School this weekend!

Oh my gosh I am so excited!!! The days are just crawwwwwling by. DH and I are staying in a little B&B while we are there so we will get to have a romantical vacation at the same time. Anybody know of anything fun to do in Maine in November?

Brrr...

The only thing I know about Maine this time of year is that it will be COLD! I know that I am freezing, and I am just in Ohio. Have fun visiting the school and with your dh!!!

Thought I should post a follow up for y'all! Maine was lovely... very quiet and peaceful at this time of year. It was chilly but clear. We did a little bit of touristy stuff but almost everything closes down October 15th (when the leaves go).

The school was amazing! This was bar-none the best reception I have had at any school I've visited so far (Seattle Midwifery, Birthingway). The staff was so welcoming and generous with their time. The students were just amazing... unlike the other schools I visited they all seemed to be relaxed, open and balanced. Even though they had just come out of a rigorous midterm, they all chatted with me and were very friendly. The campus is an old house in southern inland Maine, they are currently building an attached birth center to help expand the clinical opportunities for students.

I LOVE their program! It is 15 months (2 semesters, summer break, final semester) of academic work, three days of in classroom work per week. During your second and third semesters you have two days in classroom and one day of clinical work each week. Once the academic portion is done, you then return to your hometown to do your apprenticeship.

emily, I know this is a very old post, but I wanted to know how birthwise has been. It was one of the schools I was considering.

Hi Leticia, I actually decided not to enroll in a midwifery program at this time. However I would still whole-heartedly recommend their program. If I still wanted to study midwifery and could move anyplace in the US to do it, Birthwise would absolutely be my choice. I personally visited Birthwise, Seattle Midwifery School, Birthingway and the Midwives College of Utah. There aren't enough good things I can say about Birthwise.
