BIRTH DOULA WORKSHOP
This program is designed to provide the participant with the skills necessary to become a Birth Doula.. The three-day program will enhance the participant’s knowledge in the areas of anatomy and physiology, terminology, the labor and birth process, postpartum, and the newborn.
Participants will learn how to assist their clients in developing a birth plan, including methods of pain relief, comfort measures, and unexpected outcomes, such as cesarean birth.
The emotional and psychological aspects associated with labor and birth, along with appropriate cultural practices, will be discussed.
Participants will learn, through role-play, how to assist clients with difficult labors and births and empower the woman and her partner to cope with complications.
The doula’s scope of practice and ethical standards will be discussed, as well as the criteria to become a certified doula through DONA International.
