Happiest Baby on the Block

Are any of you certified HB instructors? If so is it profitable for you? It seems like an easy certification to get since you can do it all from home and the price isn't bad at $225. Just wondering how it has worked out for others. Oh, and there is a discount if 5 people from the same organization get together. buy4 get one free. Maybe we could get a group together? I wonder how particular they are about the organization? Anyway, that leaves the cost at $180. Just a thought.

www.thehappiestbaby.com

The only real requirement I noticed is you must be certified on another area to certify with HB. They list CBE and doula among others. I have not yet certified with either of these but I feel like that may not be a problem. Of course this will take further research but with the cert pending I would like to think it would be ok. At the very least I can at least begin the reading (like with everything else).

Which books are required to read?

I am certified in it and so far it has not been profitable for me. It has been very profitable for my doula clients because I teach it to all of them, but not for me. I got a hospital interested in the program, but they have done no real promoting and at the last class I had one person and so far at the next it looks like one person too.

I did, however just speak with another hospital to see if they would pick up the class and they are very interested. This hospital is much, much, much more mother - baby friendly so I think it will work out better there.

Not to imply that you aren't busy enough with you many other initials, you full daycare and ginormous family lol but have you done any advertising on your own or taught classes that were not with the hospital? Just curious if it is lack of interenst or lack of people being aware of it. If you don't mind my asking how much do you charge and how did you decide on your fee? I know about the $15 parent kit but not much else.

This is the email I sent to Happiest Baby...

Hello, my name is Christy Shields and I would like more information about becoming a certified Happiest Baby On the Block educator. First of all I am not yet certified in another field. I have fulfilled all of the requirements for doula certification with CAPPA with the exception of the three births. Does my certification have to be complete or is it enough that I am in the process of certification to enter your program?
Secondly, I noticed the option of an organization to certify 5 people at a time. Does this have to be a particular organization or can 4 doulas I know and I pay together to receive the discount on the fifth person?
As it is the closest HB educator is about 95 miles from my area (Columbus, GA) and I would love the opportunity to bring your program to our city. \
Thank you very much for your help.

This is the email I got in return. Just thought you all might like to know...

Hi Christy and thanks for your interest, yes you can become certified and
you and your associates can enroll in the institutional discount, buy 4
get one free. You can enroll online at our site or please feel free to
give me a call and I can take your information over the phone. We would
love to have your group teaching classes.

thanks,

Christopher Mayeaux

Me! I want to do it! Christie, do you still want to? I think it would be fun to do it as a group on AllDoula's.

One of the Doula's at my CLE workshop said it has been VERY profitable for her. She teaches two sessions a week at her local Babies R Us.

As far as I know there isn't anyone in my area that is using this technique.

Anyone else want to join in?

Tell me more about the book. I have heard about it, but never really any details. What are the basic ideas that are taught to parents in these classes?
