Newspaper Interview!
Well, I had my interview with the newspaper reporter yesterday. I think it went very well, she was very kind and compassionate. She even got a little teary-eyed a couple of times when I was talking. Get this...she is going to do a FULL page article on doulas and Operation Special Delivery. She asked if she could talk to my past clients (and she's going to talk to Val, of course). It will be in next weeks paper (The Bayonet, military post paper) for Mother's Day. I am nervous, of course, that I got across the right message. I guess I can only wait and see but I really want to LOVE it!! I will try to post a copy of the article.

Oh, that is so exciting, Christy! I hope to be able to see it!
For some unknown reason to me, I am very intimidated about doing articles and/or interviews for a newspaper. I'm not very bold in that area. It seems like a lot of you Alldoulas doulas are doing this lately; maybe I'll be able to step up to the plate like you all sometime. Way to go! I'm so proud of you all!

well, I am a lot more brave in an email. I had sent the newspaper information about OSD, letting them know they could visit the website or contact me for more information. When she called and wanted to do an interview I was scared! Actually, I was more scared of the idea of doing it over the phone. I don't like talking to strangers over the phone. It used to be so bad that I hated the idea of even ordering pizza! lol So, when she asked me to come meet her I was a little relieved. After the interview I thanked her for making it painless and told her I was so nerveous. She seemed shocked by that and assurred me I did very well. I laughed to myself when I stood up and the waistband of my pants were damp from nerveous sweat! hahaha

Very Cool!!! I wonder how well publicized is OSD in the military. Do they have mom's groups and parenting help for new parents? Hmmmm....

Every military post/base is different. I don't think many women know about OSD, though. As far as mom's groups go it just varies. The FRG (family readiness group) is kind of supposed to cover things like that but the main purpose of the FRG is to ready the family in the event the soldier must deploy. That includes soldiers etc being gone for short periods of time as well (a few days to a few weeks). I remember one FRG meeting we went to when my dh was going to Kazakhstan for two weeks. They went on and on about making sure the wives knew simple things like what bills need to be paid and where the checkbook is. What to do/who to call if the car breaks down or if there was an emergency etc. We laughed so hard during that meeting because my husband and I realized he would be in huge trouble if something happened to me cause he didn't know half of that stuff!! Every FRG group is different and they are all run by volunteer wives so you never know what you will get. We were here at Ft. Benning for 18 months before I met the first wife from FRG. I think some larger bases/posts probably have groups but I have not experienced that yet. Of course I am speaking of my Army experience...the Air Force etc might be very different.

That's awesome Christy!!! Congratulations. You'll have to send us a link to it (if there is one) when it comes out.
My interview comes out in tomorrow's Folio Weekly. I am NERVOUS!! That photo shoot was so silly...I'm trying not to think about it or I'll worry myself sick until I see it. Lol
