Networking

I am curious to find out how you all network with other doulas, CBE's, midwives, OB's etc... Do you send them thank you cards, brochures etc? I'd love to hear your ideas. Do you think that netorking has been a good source of business for you?

I always send thank yous to the OB/MW, CBE that lets me sit in on her class, l&d nurses. They are all giving me referrals now. We also always take in donuts or cookies for the nurses too.
I think that it shows that you are really trying to make this a very positive birth experience. And that you want to work as a team.

Thumbs up

I love the idea of making cookies/goodies for the caregivers! People come to my office ("day job") bringing goodies and it always makes for a good impression, as well as, a way of remembering them. Thanks for the tip!

I was in on this great teleseminar thing for doulas recently and one doula mentioned that she used to attend the networking meetings held by her local chamber of commerce. She said she got a lot of clients that way because she was the only doula there, and I've never heard of anyone doing that before. What a great platform! I know thats not exactly the kind of networking we were talking about, but it's still a great idea.

I also heard of one doula who would offer to help out some of the local midwives with office work and filing acouple of hours per week. I thought that was cool too. Keep the ideas coming!
