I have NO backup doula right now. Yes, I know, it's scary! My current client knows. I keep in touch with my doula trainer and I am sure we could find someone if I really needed to. Problem is I might not know who that person is, but at least my client would have someone.

Anyway, if someone in London, Ontario is looking for a backup as well, send me a PM.

I scratch your back you scratch mine...no money is exchanged or contracts. When I need a doula to help me out I call...and when a doula needs some help I gladly provide it. It's simple..my favorite is when things are simple.

For the 1st 2 years I didn't have a back-up. Now there are several of us around. I like the simple idea too. I've never had to use backup (knock on wood) and can't afford to pay one considering the majority of my clients are bartering. I try to find someone who doesn't have a client around the same time and that I think will work well with the clients.

I have a back-up doula, but she is expecting a baby any day now, so she isn't working. Basically we have it worked out so that whoever does the birth gets half the fee. So if I attend the prenatals I get half and if she does the birth she gets half. That has only happened once though in 2 1/2 yrs.

I work with 2 other doulas and we back each other up. If the backup doula does the birth, she gets a set amount of the fee. In reality, we haven't had one of us actually do a birth for someone else in quite a while....I'd say well over 2 years.
