How long did it take for your name to get about and your phone to start ringing?

I have my first birth but just wanted to know what happened next for you guys.
Was your next birth via word of mouth from the first, from advertising, had you gotten them lined up for months in advance??

It is thanksgiving, I have JUST started advertising, I did a newspaper interview on Monday to go out next week, but I am already worried that the phone is quiet

I don't want to have unrealistic expectations and I know it will take time to get clients and get a reputation. I did want to start CBE classes in the new year too.

Any pearls of wisdom sisters?

Mine first batch of clients came as result of my doula trainer generously referring some volunteer clients, and because I attended a prenatal fair. I was just sort of walking around and my trainer let me put a stack of my flyers on her booth. I think I got 2 clients from that, but like I said I did two whole years of all volunteer births.

I found they came in spurts... my phone wouldn't ring for months, then all of a sudden I'd get three. My last few clients have all been from referral!
