Business name
I'm SOOOOOOOOOO bad about coming up with catchy names/titles. I need some suggestions about what to call my doula business. I know, I know...I'm not going thru certification yet but I want a name anyway.

I think having your name in it is good. I decided on Peaceful beginnings but then heard about a business with the same name in california so I think I am going to change mine to Peaceful Beginnings with Cortney Holmes. That way it is sort of like a phrase and a name.
In order to help give you suggestions you should come up with a list of words, and the message that you want to send. That way we could help you put some stuff together.

 JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!
I'll have to think about that. The baby was up just about every hour last night b/c of congestion so my brain is fading tonight!

I don't know either.. I had the same problems too.. I would think of a GREAT name then found out it was already taken. I finally have "birth from within".. I already bought the domain now I just gotta get a web host.

I'm not very creative....hmmmmm.......
Ok, Heather...please remind me: Are you going for your labor/birth Doula cert. or your Postpartum Doula cert? Do you foresee doing both?
I'm not good at this either, but let me play anyway, ok???!!!!
"Heather's Heart & Hands Doula Services" (or Birth Services)
(or minus your name)
(btw...I like Georganne's idea, too!: "Heather's Helping Hands"
"Heather's Heart for Birth Doula Services"
"Heather s Birth & Doula Services"
Oh...I don't know....I think the more I go on, the worse they're getting!! I'm only going by "Lorisa Davis, CLD --Certified Labor Doula" for now because I haven't found the right fit for me yet. With that said, I DO like the fact that there is some name recognition going on for my business so far. Cortney has a good point. Eventually, I hope that when people hear or see my name, that they will think (or better yet, say), "Oh yea...I've heard of her; she's a doula!".

Think about what you want to get across! It is going to be near impossible to find a name that no one has yet! There are a lot of us out there it seems! My buisness name is Birthing Choices, I chose this because I wanted to get out the 'message' of choice. If you are wanting to get the theme of mothering, supporting, empowering, choices, education, keeping birth sacred, normal, or if you are a religous person, I've seen where some have used this in their name, because they are putting out there that they are a spiritual doula! Like for example, 'With His Love, doula services". Are you going to be working alone, or with an collective of doulas? If you were going to be working with a group, you could use your city's name, or a region. I've started a group called the SW Michigan Doulas.
But my suggestion would to be, first, establish what kind of 'theme' you want in your name, this could really help!

I started by making a list of all of the words that came to mind when I thought of pregnancy and birth. Just open a word document and go back to it ever day or every couple of days until something hits you. I also used the dictionary and thesaurus to further my list. Once you see it all in front of you it may be easier to decide what moves you or inspires you. You can cross off the words that you feel are over used or you just don't like. I noticed when I did it all in my head my mind kept going back to the same words over and over. List EVERY word you think of. Even though you may already know you don't want to use it you may find that it leads you to another word later on. If you have a few names you like but can't decide between check and see if the web address is open. That may help you decide. I orginally liked Mother to Mother but the web address was taken. When I found that Mother the Mother was available as a web address and an aol address I figured it was just supposed to be!! Good luck and have fun with it.

Still haven't worked on that list. Been working on bills and money stuff.
Lori ~ I wanna do it all. That's why I'm going with CAPPA, so I can cert. in several different areas (labor, PP, teens, adoption, childbirth education, lactation consulant). Down the road I also hope to pursue midwifery.

Yeah...that. There's my list.
I plan on working alone I think. I have joined up w/ a group of doulas that meets 4x/yr but they all still are independant.
I kinda like "Heart and Hands Doula Services". It kinda goes w/ my wahm business, "Handmade By Heart" (I make Mother's jewelry and rag quilts). I could use the same logo (when I make one... ) and it could be easily changed to "....Birth Services" someday. Hmmmm...
My dh suggested "Deliverance Doula Services: We guarantee to help you deliver your baby in 30 mintues or it's free!!!"

I finally decided on a business name!
I was in the shower today thinking about possible names and this came to me.
Wonderfully Made!
Doula and Childbirth Education Services
From Psalm 139:
Quote:
|
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
|
The idea behind it being...God is fearfully and wonderfully forming the Baby and Mama is wonderfully made to birth her baby naturally.
So that's it.
