Elance Logo Question

Hi! I was curious if any of you who have use Elance, have not liked any of the logo's they have created for you, even after revising them? I am really not liking the logo the company, I chose, is creating for me. The lady I am working with isn't getting what I am telling her I want I don't have to pay them if I don't use their logo, correct?

Hopefully Emily will chime in

Ohhh, that was one of my concerns about using Elance. I'm so sorry you're having this problem! Please let us know how it turns out...

I'm sort of having this problem right now. I like the logos she's created - they just don't really resonate with me, you know? On the other hand, we're just going to have to work together until she comes up with something I love because I'm paying her to do it. And I'm not gonna feel bad about that!

I don't know if you have to pay them if you don't use their logo. Hmm.

If you don't like it, you no pay! You can also back to other bidders and use them too.

I am going back and forth with mine right now.... but I am happy so far that I am using a professional.

Great! That was what I was wondering! I just looked back at the terms of service and they said you don't get invoiced untill you are 110% happy, I am like 20% happy! LOL

I know exactly what you mean! I like them but they just don't fit like I want them to. And there is a language barrier right now, so she is having a hard time understanding what I want.

I don't know about that particular company, but with a professional designer, it does not matter if you like the work or not, you pay the worker for their time. I would imagine it is very rare to find a designer willing to design custom work for no fee.
If you go to a birth with a mom and it did not turn out to be a perfect experience, do you refund the fee?
You also may want to look at your terms to see how many revisions are included, most high quality designers only do a couple for free, then you get charged for that as well...
just a heads up

Wife of a graphic designer here...

You are paying for their time, intellectual property, design work, knowledge of marketing, what will look good together, etc. , skills, etc. It takes time, effort, skill, computer programing, electricity, computer equipment, etc. to design a logo, website, etc.

You should pay them for the time they have spent on the logo. The contract should state how many comps they will submit to you, then how many revisions on the selected comps they will give you before you either pay by the hour or call it quits and move on to another designer. If they did not spell all that out in the contract that is their own stupid fault and you need to continue based on your own personal integrity.

However, you should pay something for the work they have done. Just as you would want to get paid for any doula work you did even if someone took over for you partway through or your client ended up with a c-section you couldn't attend.

Too many people act like graphic design and web design is something that should be cheap or free. That is just not the case. Designers work hard and usually long hours. They have kids to feed too.

Blessings,
Micky

Well said Micky. However, you might want to email the company you chose directly and ask if there is a different designer you can work with.

Many of the companies on elance are overseas (part of the reason why they bid so cheap) and language barriers are definitely an issue (you can see the country of origin for company before you bid though). Although getting a logo through elance is cheap, there is lower quality to the work and service they provide. If you are on a budget, it may be the only option you have but I guess you have to be prepared to "get what you paid for".
