There are a number of Doula's in our area, and another handful that will finish our training program soon. Many of our students are distance learners....but for the ones here......
I am working on developing a spiral bound book that will have one page devoted to each Doula. Each page will have a place for their personal information - Name, phone number, what services they offer. Also a place for them to jot down their training and experience and any personal likes, hobbies, etc.
I thought I could show this to pregnant women, and they could get a feel for who they might think would be a good "fit" for them. The binder would sit in the office (I am a midwife) and would be good advertising. The students who need births to complete their training would have an opportunity to get some clients, and I would be there to mentor them.
Have any of you done something like this? Is there any other information you think I should have on the page....I was thinking a spot for a picture if they want. It's always good to associate a face with a name.

There's a midwifery office about an hour from here that I hear has done something similar. (I haven't seen it, but helped a friend with her page) The doulas were allowed to create whatever they wanted, including whatever info/pictures/etc. they wanted - the only rules were that it had to be "family friendly" and fit into an 8.5 X 11 page protector. They keep it in a binder and periodically rotate the order so those "stuck" in the back of the book are not there forever. Some of those ladies are pretty good scrapbookers, so the book is really nice, from what I hear.

i agree that it sounds like a great idea.

the midwifery collective that i had my kids with doesn't do anything right now other than give out my business cards. i might suggest this although i don't even know if they "use" any other doulas.
