Moving business into a new area (upstate NY)

ok, so we are looking to move out of the city, may have found a rental house already in the area we want to go to. I am puttin gmy business on hold until we are moved and settled, but wanted some advice from you all about going into a new area. How do I get involved or hook up with other doulas in a new area? Do I just give them a call and say, "Hey, I'm a new postpartum doula in town, can we meet for coffee?" I'm a bit shy when it comes to other peers, clients I have no problem talking to, but I want to hook up with local people who are in the same field, ya know?

By the way, we're moving to orange county, NY, specifically the town of Greenwood Lake, so if any of you ladies are in that area, please let me know!

Thanks for any advice.

Liz

I'm about to move too and I just started searching for email addresses and started sending out emails. I'm very excited that I've already connected to the birthing world in my new city and I haven't even moved yet.

Basically, the emails I sent I just introduced myself, said that I was moving soon and was anxious to know what the birthing environment is like there. Typically, other doulas do get excited for new faces (though not everywhere). I was relieved when I started the email dialogue because it relieved some of the fears I had that I wouldn't be very welcomed into the local "in" crowd. Sheesh...sounds like high school all over again! lol

Thanks That is exactly how I feel, like I'm trying to infiltrate the cool kids, lol. I know there is at least one doula there. I saw a midwife up there for my annual since I couldn't find one here in the city, and here were signs in the office. I should have grabbed one of her cards And I know there is at least one doula on alldoulas from up there, but the county is HUGE, so I don't know exactly where, kwim?

Anyway, thanks. We heard from the realtor today and they are going to do the repairs we asked for before we move in! So, it looks like we will be moving by midsummer! YEAH!
