Another website question...
Okay -- another (probably stupid) question about website, domain names, etc...Please bear with me . About 10 months ago I bought my domain name through bravenet.com. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do website wise so I just held onto for a while. Then a doula friend of mine told me about transferring my domain name to googlepages.com and build my website there because it was free. I was pretty impressed, the website packages they offered were professional looking etc. So, that is where I have been ever since. Well, fast forward to the present and all of the trouble I am having with meta tags etc. I got to thinking maybe I should just start over with a new website. So, I went back to bravenet to check into it. Now, my question is this....I don't want two websites floating around out there so how do I cancel the one through googlepages so I can start a new one at bravenet?? I will still have my domain name (www.sacred-birth.com) through bravenet so I don't have to do that. It looks like all I would need to do through them is start building my site, but how do I get my other one off of googlepages??? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

You could do like I did and put a redirect from your old one to your new one. That way if you did any advertising using your old one, it will still benefit you. You can also just delete your files from the file magager or what ever google pages has that is comparable.

You can probably email googlepages tech support and ask them to delete your account. Not without saving everything to your computer first though!!

When you arranged for it to work with googlepages, did you log into bravenet and set it to forward there? Because if that's what you did, all you have to do is undo the forwarding, and point the domain to the new host. Once you get hosting set up, they'll walk you through it, especially since you're doing the domain name & hosting through the same company.

Yes -- I transfered my domain name to googlepages
Because if that's what you did, all you have to do is undo the forwarding, and point the domain to the new host.
Again, please forgive me...but how do you "undo" the forwarding and point the domain to a new host??
Once you get hosting set up, they'll walk you through it, especially since you're doing the domain name & hosting through the same company.
Well....thank the Lord because certainly need all the help I can get!! Thanks for all of your advice and help!

Manage Address Redirection
<TABLE class="tableHover redirectTable no-arrow colstyle-activerow" id=redirectedHostNames cellPadding=4 width="100%" border=1 _extended="true"><THEAD _extended="true"><TR _extended="true"><TH class="sortable-text fd-column-0" style="MozUserSelect: none" align=left unselectable="on" _extended="true"> Host</TH><TH class="sortable-sortUrl fd-column-1" style="WIDTH: 300px; MozUserSelect: none" align=left unselectable="on" _extended="true"> Redirection address</TH><TH class="sortable-text fd-column-2" style="WIDTH: 120px; MozUserSelect: none" unselectable="on" _extended="true"> Masking</TH><TH class=" fd-column-3" style="WIDTH: 65px" _extended="true">Edit</TH><TH class=" fd-column-4" style="WIDTH: 65px" _extended="true">Delete</TH></TR></THEAD><TBODY id=redirectedHostNamesBody _extended="true"><TR id=redirect_row_484 _extended="true"><TD _extended="true">sacred-birth.com</TD><TD _extended="true">http://douladottie.googlepages.com/</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Okay -- I went on this page on bravenet and this is what I came up with for redirecting ..... I want to undo this redirection so it doesn't go to googlepages anymore...

You'll just need to replace the redirected address with the new information once you get the new hosting set up. Bravenet should send you that info.

So - do I start a new website at bravenet and then delete the old website once the new one is done? I don't want to redirect the other one if it is messed up. I really just want to start from scratch.

You just need to disable the redirect. That should be at bravenet because apparently that's where your domain is located.
You can't cancel domain names. If you do that, you will NEVER get sacred-birth.com back again. Well, it might take a few years. So don't cancel your domain name.
If you transfered the domain and hosting to googlepages then you need to transfer it all back to bravenet or another host. It looks like all you have is domain forwarding. Someone types sacred-birth.com and it forwards to the douladottie thing. So, just cancel the forwarding.
Oh, you should only have to make a new site at bravenet if you choose them for hosting. Once you cancel the domain forwarding to google the page shouldn't be available unless someone types in douladottie.googlepages.com. (I think).

Even if I want to start from scratch with a new website with bravenet hosting? I know not to cancel the domain name....I just want to design a completely new website and do it through bravenet possibly....

Makes sense. That will work too.
I was just saying not to cancel the domain because I have done that once for a web client and it was VERY hard getting it back.
