Is this rude?

I just started a Yahoo Group for the Michiana Birth Professionals.
It is a private group in that you need to be approved to join or be invited.
I received an e-mail from someone wanting to join.
Here is what she said.

As a local homebirthing mom, I'm mostly curious to see who posts here

I was going to e-mail back and reject the member since I want it to be a place for birth professionals to talk freely without worries about just anyone reading posts.
Is rejecting her for the group for that reason rude?

I have been rejected from a group before (I tried to join an LLL Leaders group while I was just a Leader Applicant) SO no I don't think it is Rude, the group is for Professionals only. Shoot her an email and just let her know that unless she is a midwife, doula, CBE etc..she can't join sorry.

I'll preface this by saying that while I participate in a few groups, I have no experience managing one...
I don't think it's rude to specify that it is for birthing professionals only. If she is interested in knowing who posts there, you could ask the members of your group who feels comfortable having their contact info. released to this woman, but that is as far as I would go. (It's one thing if she's looking for potential childbirth professionals, but she could just be interested in eavesdropping!)

I don't think so. But I would put a note on the group info saying specifically that the group is only for birth professionals.

Woa, tough one Stacia! No, I don't think it would be rude! I mean, the intro for the group states that it is for birth professionals! I don't think I would feel as free to vent about certain things, if there was some potienal clients, or just any expectant parent 'stalking' the group! kwim

yeah, I agree with all of them.. you stated it's for professionals only, she has no reason to be there...

Nope, it isn't rude. You have set your criteria and honestly as a member (which I am not one

) I would be upset if you didn't uphold your standards as being a group for professionals only.

Maybe also refer her to another group that is more suited to her needs?
