Question/cert/induc/DONA

Question:

you're doing a birth for certification, and the mom is possibly having an induction, she's already dilated 1cm but is told that her cervix is still very thick, for DONA you have to be there by 4cm.
Have any of you had this before? How early or how soon do you arrive before she dilates more with an induction, of course I know that they make them go the night before, and they insert the cervadil, and the morning after they do the pitocin.. (usually)..
OR have ya'll had something different?

The 2 inductions I attended, I was there before 4 cm.

The first the mom went in at midnight for Cervadil and Pit was to start at 8:30 am. I got there at 8:00 am and they didn't even start Pit until 10:30...her cx was completely closed until Pit was started.

The second they were starting Pit at 8:00 am and I arrived then and mom was only 3 cm when they started.

If I were still doing cert births I would suggest getting there when Pit is started. (unless mom is already 2-3 cm dilated then I might get there earlier) Good luck

I agree with Cathy, and would want to know why induction? Have they explored all the avenues, are they good canidates on the Bishop Scale? If they do end up with induction a new study says striping the membranes does make the induction more effective...finally when do they want you to be there, that's the most important part. DONA can't control that, your clients needs are first...HTH, Sarah

Well, it depends. If the mom's cx is completely closed you might could get away with getting there later, but I wouldn't risk it b/c you never know how the mom's body will react to the Pitocin. Actually, now thinking about it, the Pit ctx can be so intense that the mom would probably appreciate you being there from the get-go.
