I got a call...

from a midwife saying her client wants a doula....and she like for ME to be the doula to assistant....it's going to be a home birth. I cannot believe it...there only one problem ..I think I be doing this for free the midwife did not say..which is fine but I would have not minded the money at all..oh, well just the experince is well worth it....I am going to be attending a home water birth...which us luck....mom due Sept 24.

It's a little bit of a bummer that you may be doing this one for free, but you're going to get some great experience and it's a fantastic opportunity!

Also - although your services are valuable - from the mama's perspective, she is probably shelling out a few thousand dollars upfront for her midwife so I can imagine if she is reluctant to add Doula fees on top of that, hehe!

Thanks girls...I do think it's a great opportunity.

You know I thought the same thing if she can give the midwife a few thousand why can't the mom throw me a few dollars....at least for gas..well maybe more for a bit of my time...since the birth is going to be five blocks from where I live. ...I be happy if she give me a five dollars ..something. I wonder if I should bring it up? and if I do what should I say? Who do I say it too? ..Since the midwife is the one that called me not the mom.

Oh susan as much as the money would have been nice ,the homebirth experience is sooooo worth.If you'v never been to one be ready to be so blown away at the amazing naturalness of it all,& peacefullness &..... It just got to experience it to know. I can't wait for my moms birth in Oct.
