hip dysplasia in baby

does anyone have any experience with this? the baby was born 9-11-09

"Our baby has Hip Dysplasia in her left hip also know as DDH. We saw a pedi orthopedic surgeon and she wants to use a brace called a Pavlik Harness to correct...it looks horrible. She will need to wear it 24/7 for 8-6 weeks. Our chiropractor thinks it will be detrimental to the rest of her body's growth....do you know anyone who's baby had this condition or maybe any resources I may want to check out."

i'm sorry for the family, but it is good that it has been detected now. babywearing in a correct(!!!) position is beneficial for hip development and for physical development of the baby in general. is there any possibility to combine the device with babywearing? or at least after the treatment is completed, wear the baby as much as possible to catch up? what does your chiro suggest?
good healing to the baby!!! keep us updated with how it goes.
now i'm waiting to see what others suggest and what experiences they have!

When I was a kid, my mother nanny'ed a girl with hip displaysia. She wore a large brace for around 6 months. In fact, she learned to walk with that brace on. She didn't experience any side effects from it. within weeks of it being off she was walking perfectly normally. She danced ballet as an older child and is now a very successful businesswoman.

I don't have any resources. I just wanted to provide this data point.

I had hip dysplasia when I was a baby. Maybe she should get a 2nd opinion if she's questioning the treatment. I didn't have a brace, but my mom had to put extra cloth diapers on me to reposition my hips. I don't think waiting what, a week if that for a 2nd opinion affects the treatment very much. Good luck to her!
