baby planning
on the news here (dallas/ fort worth), there was an interesting story on baby planning. it sounds a little like a doula. they help the moms do things like plan showers, baby registries, get the nursery ready, and more. i just wanted to share the story with everyone. here's the link to the news story:

what do ya'll think about this?

I guess my thoughts are "Is there really a market for this?" I think hiring a birth doula or postpartum doula or even housecleaning and extra childcare would be a bette place to spend my money as a mom with two children already (the lady in the article). I am sure it is nice to have, as a service, but I can only see those with lots of expendable incomes signing up for this. Since when does the mom plan her own baby shower?? I am sure those working already as doulas could offer the extra services( thanks for sharing that idea! It is a good one!) . I know it wouldn't fly in my community as people choke over the idea of spending $500 on a birth doula. I have a feeling this must be an upscale, upper income area of Texas.

It's like event planning/interior design for babies? I agree that it seems more high income, but it also sounds like fun.

i'm just doing post-partum doula training now, so this is something i might would consider, just to have that extra bits of service. mostly, because it just looks fun. i've been inspired by gilmore girls and would love to have onesies decorating parties, so i think that would go along under the baby planning line.

I think its cute! Its like getting paid to get ready for a baby... but for someone else! haha. Party planning and nursery decoration is fun.
Definitely for higher income families, but I can see how it would be worth it for many women.

You can also take this in a different direction.
Planning For Baby On A Budget.
Actually the concept of a Pregnancy and Birth Consultant is something I've been toying around with for well over a year now.
You hire wedding planners, etc. why not plan for your baby.

One of my teachers from massage school had a consulting business for family sustainability and "green" practices. She would show people how they could reduce their environmental impact as a family (and save money doing it.) It would be fun to do that ~ as well as focus the pregnancy/birth/baby aspect. Another consulting aspect could be safety issues and baby proofing a house.

I bet more people would spring the cash for this than an actual birth doula.

We have a doula in my area that does this, and I think she does very well at it.
