need info on blood clots

Posted this on DONA too but I need info asap...
Hi everyone, hope someone can help direct me to some information. My client (and friend)is 14 weeks preg. and she had an asthma attack last night and went to emerg because she didn't have a puffer at home...well the short version is now she's on blood thinners because she has a clot in her lung(they did the dye test...yikes)and she's still in the hospital on IV blood thinners and is supposed to have an ultrasound today. Does anyone have any idea where I can learn lots about this...obviously she can't research in the hospital. Now her pregnancy is considered high risk and she has to transfer to an OBGYN instead of her family physician. Someone ther told her that if the blood thinner is given IV that it won't cross the placenta or affect baby...that doesn't sound right to me.
Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

Liz

I do know that Heprin is used for different conditions during pregnancy. Sometimes it is the only thing that can keep some women with blood clotting issues pregnant. You may find more information on webmd.com or babycenter.com

I like pregnancyandbaby.com and alos about.com

Good luck to your client and friend.

I was thinking she's probably on Heprin, too. I don't know a lot about it (and since the info is urgently needed, there doesn't seem to be a lot of time for research). There are a lot of midwives on the forums at www.midwiferytoday.com . The midwives could probably give you some good medical info (from a midwive's point of view) about this. Just a thought.....
