I think I am going to miss christmas

Good Morning Ladies,

Well it is Christmas morning and I am on Alldoulas (addictive!!!). Amyway, I just need to have a good cry right about now. My December 22nd client called me last night (right in the middle of a reading "the night before christmas), she was having sporatic cxts. I told her not to get too hung up on them as theses were the first cxts she has felt. I told her to have a bath or shower, big glass of water and go to bed. I barely slept all night because I was terrified that I was going to miss christmas morning (my favourite part)! So I dragged my family out of bed at 6am!!

Thankfully she didn't call until 8am, but the downside is that they would be leaving for the hospital soon

. She is having BP issues, it is so low that she has tingling in her hands and feet. She suffers from low BP, but this is the first sign of something out of the ordinary about it. I am hoping that by time the regulate her BP issues and get her cxts on course (or send her home), that it will be tonight after everything is done. I am also hosting dinner for my entire family (9), and I would hate to miss people opening the presents I bought. I will have to keep my hopes up, although it has put a damper on the day. I will keep you all posted. I hope your families are having a wonderful day, happy holidays.

Ah... the life of a doula!
One of the downsides. But maybe you get a birth!! Way cool.

I spoke with her about 20mins ago. She is being sent home after a u/s ... think baby is breech?!? She was head down and locked as of last week, ah well baby's can be surprizing. I am alittle more relaxed, turkey is cooking, stuffing made, potatoes done, brocoli chopped. And everyone is coming out early, so if I do get called out I won't miss anything ... my family is great. I will let you know how the birth goes, once I go, of course. LOL. Merry Doulamas!

I had the same panic last night- I was backing someone up and she had two clients in labor at the same time! Her less-far along client called and said ctx were 10 min apart and she figured it'd be that way all night (her 2nd baby). She settled in, I started opening presents and her husband called an hour later yelling at me to drive as fast as possible!

I missed the birth, then again, they nearly missed the hospital- she pulled up feeling like she needed to push. They didn't really believe her- she shoved her sweater between her legs and barely made it up the elevator. One push on a not-broken-down bed and they had the baby. I got there 3 minutes later.

I got to help with breastfeeding, give mom a drink and some dinner and get back home in time to put my son to bed.

It's kind of weird meeting someone for the first time when they're naked ....
