Good Luck - HOpe it goes smoothly! I have one in February (my first) and then I will be on hiatus until August b/c I am due in March. I am hoping my couples' birth goes smoothly also! They have noted that they probably won't call me until they go to the hospital, so that will shorten it a bit at least The only problem I foresee is that my belly might get in the way once in a while - but I think I should be ok - her hubby is really supportive - so I may just be coaching him on how to help her.... we'll see!!

MOM to 2 beautiful little girls - Sidney (March 21/07) and Olivia (April 10/04) Both were awesome home births!!
Baby girl, born at 8:33pm, about an hour after we got to the hospital birth center. I left about 2 hours after the birth, and they hadn't weighed her yet. Baby Girl is nursing like a champ.
Mom and Dad were doing so well that I again found myself in more of a space protector role, which worked. I've decided I prefer clients I do feel an immediate bond with. Introverted, flat-affect mamas are much more difficult for me to read. And while I don't think she was at all displeased, I can't tell, kwim? They just don't put off a vibe. Anyway, I got beautiful pictures afterwards, and dang, that child is just pretty.
The few things mom said in labor were said in a quiet, labor-heavy almost-whisper.
Birth in a nutshell:
The scene--Mom and Dad beside the bed, with mom hanging on Dad's neck, and going into a deep squat for contractions. 2 nurses across the room, me a few feet away on the couch.
Mom squats for a contraction:
Nurse (mouths): Is she pushing?
Me: Yes.
Nurse (flying across the room and gloving in a hurry): Any way she can move to the bed so we can catch?
Me: I don't think so.
Mom: NO.
Nurse (sounding very nice, but a little nervous): I just don't want her to fall on the floor.
Mom: Then catch her.
Baby: "Ehhhhhh"
The nurse has been there 5 years, and that was her first catch.
