Question Anyone heard of this???

My sister had her 20 week ultrasound and baby looks healthy and is growing according to due date! This is her first baby! The ultrasound tech said everything looked "perfect" but asked my sister if she had some bleeding during her pregnancy. My sister did have a few days of brown/light pink spotting at about 5-6 weeks of pregnancy and then again at 10 weeks pregnancy. She was told at the time it was normal by her docs. She asked the u/s tech how she knew she had bleeding and the tech said that she could see "empty pockets" and that it's common in women who have bled during pregnancy. My sister didn't ask any other questions but does anyone know what she might of meant by "empty pockets"?? The tech said that it wasn't a cause for concern and didn't seem worried or anything but the tech did say she would include it in the info she sends to her doc. Her app't isn't for another month.

A little background, I had placenta abruption (at term) with my first...my mother says she had a lot of bleeding when she went into labor with her first (I'm thinking placenta abruption)...I'm just hoping the "empty pockets" isn't an indication of a possible risk for placenta abruption later in her pregnancy...

Has anyone heard of this term being used? Any thoughts or ideas?

I don't know if this is the same thing.. but if she could take a look at the ultrasound report or ask her dr. if it was a subdural hematoma..maybe the tech termed it as "empty pockets" to try to explain what it looked like..but the medical term is more helpful on google. I didn't have any heavy spotting with the pregnancy I had it, my 3rd pregnancy. My dr. said that occasionally it can cause problems, but they usually resolve on their own and most women would never know if they didn't have an early ultrasound. There is a lot of scarey info out there on the internet, (I know because it freaked me out when I was pregnant) but it is important to know both sides of the picture and know that it is nothing she did or could do, etc. It is just something that happens. If she is worried, she really should use this as a time to ask her dr. about it...help facilitate communication for other things too, ya know?
