Hi everyone!
Well, I'm back from the hospital.
She had SROM during the day yesterday off and on leaking. She contacted her OB and they wanted to "check" her. They kept her and started her on a "low dose" of Pit before I even made it to the hospital at 11:30pm. She labored with the Pit until 8am, when she got Staydol. She was totall LOOPY for 2 hours, the pain became worse and she hollared for a Epi until someone brought her an anestesiologist. THEN, the epi only worked for about 2 hours until she was hollering for something else.
This was the mom that wanted a natural childbirth, who was terrified of epidurals and who knew that she had a High tolerance for pain.
In the end, this mom delivered a healthy 7lb 12oz baby boy... by ceserean at 4:30pm.
I tried EVERYTHING that I knew how to do to make this labor progress naturally, and to calm this mother. The baby was OP and we successfully got him to turn, but the OB said that the mom had "failure to progress. (I HATE THAT TERM!!!!)
But after all was said and done, the mom told me that she felt like she tried everything that she could, that she gave her all, that I helped tremendously and she had an overall great birth experience. I left Mom, and baby nursing and resting comfortably. And Dad grinning like a Chessie cat!
And now... I'm off to bed!
Good night my Doula sisters
