I was on CafePress today looking for a black doula T to wear to births, and I came across a labor log for doulas. Sounds interesting, right? Well the picture on the front is horrid! (just go to cafepress.com and type "doula" in the search box... the log was one of the first things to come up. Be sure to enlarge the pic so you can really see it. I'd post a link, but I'm not legal yet...)
The picture on the front looks like this: mom's feet in the stirrups (only her feet show in the pic), baby in the McWarmer, and what may be forcepts on the table. Oh, and no doula in sight.
The idea is good, but sheesh... who chose this picture? Ick ick ick.
Yeah, I'll be carrying around a book with that picture on the cover!

I can't believe that is from Global Birth Institute. And they have another book with the same photo. Nope...I wouldn't be whipping that one out of my bag!
well, it's a hospital setting, all the tools dr.'s need for a delievery, I mean yeah it's not an appropiate pic. but it is what happens in a hospital setting.. right?
I mean I'm not trying to be smart here.. I'm just trying to understand.. if it's the hospital setting yall don't like or the pic. itself being put on the book for a cover..?
(I think I need some w/ splenda not sugar.. I'm trying to quit.. )
*just started a diet..
I agree the photo shows a common hospital birth situation... but it's a scenerio we hope to help moms avoid, yes? So why not use a photo showing a doula helping a laboring mom in a hospital? The mom can be in a hospital gown, leaning over a hospital bed, with all kinds of hospital machinery in the background. The key, if I were in control of this product's design, would be to show a mother laboring in a hospital room, and a doula helping her cope.

My thoughts exactly. The common hospital birth doesn't involve a doula either, so the photo just seems odd.

Very odd, and I know Charlotte is very anti intervention... ( from Global Birth). So I am not sure where that came from.
email her and complain I guess. www.globalbirth.org
It could just be that the photo is from her own collection and she has positive associations with it.
Maybe that's it. Still sort of weird, though. I have plenty of pics of my sons birth of my nurse acting as a doula (she was AWESOME!) and even so, most of the pics are of me being able to catch some on the birthing ball between contrax. Something like that says much more about labor support in a hospital than that pic....oh, what's a doula to do! ? ! ?

I can't see the picture too well, but I definitely don't think it paints a pretty picture of birth. I agree that a photo showing a doula helping a laboring mom in the hospital would have been a much better choice!
