Question Need Help Talking to a Client About an Induction

The client I told you all about (whose baby was breech, head down and then transverse) has her baby turned head down again and now her doc wants to schedule an induction for next Thursday. She's asking for my opinion. We all know what my opinion is. What do I say and what info can I send her? I haven't been faced with this one yet.

TIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you! I have a client due in March who has gestational diabetes, and I just KNOW that her doc is going to induce her. She's one of those people who really knows nothing about pregnancy/birth, etc, so what the doc says, goes! KWIM? Anyway....thanks for the link, I'm gonna check it out!

TueLife :

I visited childbirth.org, and it seems like every link I tried to to visit was inactive. Do you have the info that you got off the site? I'm gonna keep looking in the mean time. anyone else have anything? I've been searching threads!

For what's it's worth, I really try to steer clear of my opinions and just stick to the facts: pros, cons, risks, benefits. I feel like this puts more responsibility on the mom to make the informed decision and not basing it on my opinion.

It may be beneficial to ask her, "Why is it that you desire my opinion? How do you feel about the doctor's offer to induce?" You can share the BRAIN model with her in order for her to sort out the Benefits of the proposed induction, Risks of the induction, Alternatives to inducing next Thursday, what does her Intuition say, and what happens if she does Nothing (not get induced).
If she has this information, then you can be a good listener and help draw out her true feelings about her choices. Then she can be confident in whatever she decides to do!

I make business card sized BRAIN cards, laminate them and just gave them to my clients that are due in two weeks. They put them in their wallets with my business card!!

May I suggest www.motherfriendly.org ? There is a wonderful resource page, with printable PDFs. I am looking at the induction one now and it has sources quoted, therefor "medically approved".
