Dr. Sears on Dr. Phil tomorrow
Dr. Sears, pediatrician and attachment parenting "guru", will be on Dr. Phil tomorrow (4pm here), along with his two sons, also pediatricians. They will be helping "young moms" with parenting issues, as far as I can tell, and it should be a refreshing look at parenting advice for TV...should hopefully be interesting. Just thought I'd let you know in case any of you are interested...

Dr. Phil, from what I hear, isn't very pro-AP. He kind of belittles Dr. Sears everytime he's been on and rarely lets him talk. I saw the previews for the show and while some of it looked good the rest of the preview made it apparent that this is just another chance for him to expose the 'attachment parenting psycho' stereotype :/

I did see on his site that he of course HAD to mention that he thinks co-sleeping is stupid. :/ But he says he feels they are the gold standard on everything else.

I can't stand Dr. Phil especially after the whole unschooling show (what a joke). He presents things in order to support his own views, not to present information. I think he should stick to counseling (if you can call it that) and not make himself more than he is by getting into topics he knows nothing about.....Grrr...I hope the show went well! I used to take my son to The Sears, we usually saw Dr. Bob. I lurve them all they have the most awesome LC on staff too, I took a client there once whose newborn had some latch issues and she spent like 2 hours with us!

Lol how do you want me to vote... I'm not a fan of co-sleeping.
The show was good. Even though Dr Phil did say he did not agree with co-sleeping. One of them did say do what works best for YOUR family. Thats where I totally agree!

Darn! I didn't get to see it, but it was because of a good thing. I had a prenatal appt. with an OSD client! Anyway, I'm with you, Michele, in wondering how I should vote. I sort of co-slept (just when nodding off while breastfeeding in bed; but, when babe was finished eating and I was awake enough, he went back to his own bed. I can't claim to have co-slept in the way that most of the doulas here mean. Honestly, though, I could care less whether one co-sleeps or not. One has to do what is best for one's own family! I guess I would vote for co-sleeping because I don't want to vote against it, as if it were a "wrong" thing to do (even though we didn't do it in the way that the term implies, I think full co-sleeping is fine for those who choose to do so), kwim? Full co-sleeping just wasn't for us. Sorry for the ramble. Did I make any sense at all?

Yup makes total sense. I'm not against it for anyone else, I was against it for us and our family. I figure do what you want to do. If it works , then great.
