My friend needs a doula! Help! (El Paso, TX)

Hey ladies, I have a friend who lives in El Paso, Texas. We have had a hard time trying to find her a doula for her VBAC birth. If any one knows of a doula in that area, please let me know! My friend and I would really appreciate it! Oh yeah, she is due in mid Febuary! So time is of an essence!

I don't know anyone out that way, but I wanted to let you know I edited your thread title to include El Paso so if someone was just glancing at the thread list, they'd see where one was needed immediately.

I hope you can find someone for her!

Have you looked on the DONA site or emailed them for their list of non certified members?

I have given her the e-mails of the ladies that are listed as certified, but she has not for the list of uncertified. She did e-mail the ones that I had given and no one has responded! I just wish I could afford to go there myself! She is delivering at a army hospital, and really wants to try for a VBAC this time, and she is afraid that there will not be that much support b/c of the fact the hospital is a military one! So who knows! I did direct her to the ICAN web site, so we will see!

Would you like me to post your search on the CAPPAinfo list Yahoo Group? I'm also on a couple of other lists that have doulas on them; would you like me to spread the word through those?

If so.....Who's contact info would you want posted? Yours?...or your friend's? Let me know, and I'll post it ASAP if you'd like. Also...have you contacted ALACE? Birthworks? CBI? Just trying to think here....

Have you or your friend contacted the Maternidad La Luz Midwifery School & Clinic (click for website) in El Paso? It's a direct-entry midwifery school, I believe. They might know of doulas nearby that they could refer her to, or maybe even have a midwifery student that would be willing to doula her.

Thanks Lori, I really appreciate it! I would love to have any help spreading the word around! She really can't afford much, so that has to be kept in mind! I'll extend the idea of Maternidad!

I also had a very hard time finding a doula here in El Paso. I wish I would have known, or been on this site to read this a LONG time ago! All the doulas I found, I emailed and called, but not a single one responded to me either! I ended up going into my labor alone. Well, Too bad I am so late, huh? Maybe next time.
Btw, how did your friend do? Did she find one? How was her labor?
